EU Integration Committee Chair: Starting point should be taking steps in respecting, strengthening Georgia's independence
“The referendum held 35 years ago was the foundation for the restoration of statehood, and to this day it remains the legal basis on which we fight for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Georgia. March 31 was a decisive day in Georgia’s history,” Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the European Integration Committee, told the GPB’s First Channel.
According to Makhashvili, the population across the country expressed its will to recognize statehood on this remarkable day.
“Thirty-five years on, territorial integrity remains the main challenge for Georgia. The will, which the Georgian people expressed 35 years ago, is nor respected by Russia and some countries. The starting point for the nation should be taking steps in respecting and strengthening Georgia’s independence,” he said.
