EU High Representative calls on Georgian authorities to halt democratic backsliding: Unjustly detained should be released

“EU calls on Georgia’s authorities to respect human rights,” Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said in her speech at the OSCE Ministerial.

She noted that the authorities in Georgia should investigate cases of excessive force by law enforcement officers.

“We’ll continue to support the Republic of Moldova’s reform efforts and democratic resilience as the country advances in its path towards EU integration. In Georgia, the EU calls on the authorities to respect human rights and stop the democratic backsliding. The authorities should release the unjustly detained and investigate all allegations of excessive use of force by law enforcement and hold those responsible to account,” Kaja Kallas stated.
