EU FMs see Georgia in European family, FM Darchiashvili says

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili is in Luxembourg for the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) session.

Darchiashvili stated in his doorstep interview that the key discussion topic with his EU counterparts was Georgia’s efforts to satisfy the 12 objectives.

“I informed them that the Georgian Parliament had passed over 80 new laws to implement the European Commission’s 12 recommendations. We could confidently state that we have met up to 80% of the recommendations,” he stated.

The Minister went on to explain that Georgia’s EU candidate status decision will be “political” and “must be supported by facts, which we have been trying to share with our partners.”

He noted that “EU Foreign Ministers see Georgia in the European family.”

“We received very strong and encouraging statements from EU FMs. I would want to point out that EU Foreign Ministers have voiced strong backing for us. Almost everyone expressed strong support for Georgia’s integration into the European family,” Darchiashvili continued.
