“The European Union will allocate EUR 38 million in funding to implement new projects in 2026,” reads the EU Delegation to Georgia statement.

As the statement outlines, the EU no longer provides funding to the Georgian authorities due to democratic backsliding, but continues to deliver assistance to the people of Georgia.

“The EU has been supporting the people of Georgia for more than 30 years. Since 1992, the EU has invested more than EUR 2 billion in progress across Georgia: transforming agriculture, supporting people in remote areas to start their own businesses, improving air quality, and coordinating the upgrade of the East-West highway, among many other areas.

Due to Georgia’s democratic backsliding, the EU no longer provides funding to Georgian authorities. But we continue to deliver assistance to the people of Georgia. We reaffirm that commitment. In 2026, we are allocating EUR 38 million in new projects that will continue to make a real difference in the lives of families and communities across Georgia.

Targeted project areas include creating economic opportunities in small cities and towns, developing skills for a changing labour market, driving socio-economic development in rural areas, especially through women’s involvement, improving access to markets, and enhancing food quality. Additionally, projects will focus on taking action to combat violence towards women and girls, promoting safe and orderly migration, advancing climate adaptation and disaster preparedness, as well as maintaining support for communities in Abkhazia,” the statement reads.
