EU candidate status process rests on EC, no big difference if it is December or 2023, French Ambassador says

French Ambassador Diego Colas believes Georgia’s European perspective is “historic” but “there is work to be done to get the EU candidate status.”

“It is a very historic day for Georgia, the European perspective has been granted to Georgia. I am very proud it is under the French Presidency of the European Union.

You now have the work to be done to get the candidate status, it needs every political force to keep the eyes on prize to be mobilized and to work on that in achieving those results.”

Ambassador Colas pledged “we are ready to help,” stressing “it is important if everybody comes together.”

“This whole process [on candidate status] rests on the [European] Commission (EC) and at some point making an assessment of where we are, have we had a dynamic of reforms started and can we then review the position of Georgia. If is it done in December, if is it done in 2023, it is not a very big difference” he added.
