Defense Minister names EU candidate status, EU membership as Georgia's top priorities

The EU candidate status and subsequent EU membership are the top priorities for Georgia, Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze said in an interview with GPB First Channel’s Tavisupali Khedva (Free Vision) on Tuesday night.

Burchuladze believes “all those generate assurances, as well as the prospects of becoming a member state of collective security.”

The Minister believes these steps should be thoroughly considered, and a specific time frame should be set.

“No one would have predicted that the Baltic countries would join NATO so quickly, so to speak, without having to pay any extra price. I’m confident that we will get the chance to do so. We will be granted EU candidate status, receive full EU membership and become a member nation of collective security,” he stated.
