EU Ambassador urges Georgians to choose a government to represent their desires, wishes, aspirations
Pawel Herczynski, EU Ambassador to Georgia urged Georgians to vote in the 2024 parliamentary elections and choose a government that represents their desires, wishes and aspirations.
“In four days, you will have a possibility to go and to elect your future government. Elections are a festival of democracy. This is a day in which you, yourself, each of you can decide your future, the future of your children. Please go out, please vote, and please choose a government that would represent your desires, your wishes, and your aspirations.
Last Sunday, again, I saw on the streets of Tbilisi so many European Union flags. For an EU ambassador, it was a day of pride, it was a day of joy, it was a day of happiness. I saw so many people on the streets. Everyone was there. And I saw so many young people, your children. They deserve a better future. They deserve to have opportunities here in Georgia. They should not look for a better life somewhere else. They should have the possibility to stay, to live, to work in their beautiful Sakartvelo,” he said.
According to the EU Ambassador, countries that joined the EU made “a great civilizational leap forward.”
“As you know, EU-Georgia relations are unfortunately at a historic low. EU integration process of Georgia has been stopped. And the EU leaders have been very clear, this is a consequence of the actions taken by the Georgian authorities. As EU ambassador, it is really heartbreak and regrettable to see other countries going forward towards EU membership. And Georgia, instead of getting closer to the European union, drifting apart. Look at what has happened in Moldova. People went out and voted in a referendum to join the European Union. But every vote counted. The margin was really small. So please go out and vote, vote for your future, for the future of your children.
European union is a great success story. It is project of peace. It is a guarantee of development. This is a guarantee of decent life. And not life of very few rich. It’s not about luxurious limousines for the few rich. It’s about decent life for everyone. Look at my country, 30 years ago, my country was bankrupt. Now, thanks to the EU membership, this is a success story. Every country that has joined European Union over its history has been given a possibility for a great civilizational leap forward.
I sincerely hope that this will also be the case of Georgia. But this is in your hands. On our side, on the side of European Union, we have made it loud and clear, we have taken a decision last December to open our doors for you, for Georgia. We are waiting for you. But you need to go through these doors yourself. No one can do it for you. No one can do it instead of you, it’s for you to decide. This is your country. This is your choice. This is your choice to make. Sxvisi aravisi aris. Sakartvelo aris sheni. Go and vote. Choose your future. Tsin Saqartvelo, tsin,” he said.
