EU Ambassador hopes messages that PM received in Spain to be sincere and honest so that "we all celebrate in December"
“I hope that the messages that the Prime Minister of Georgia received yesterday in Spain from European leaders are sincere and honest so that we all together celebrate in December, said Pawel Herczynski, EU Ambassador to Georgia.
According to the EU Ambassador, Georgia has “done a lot” in the fulfillment of the EC’s recommendations, though there are “mixed signals coming from Georgia.”
“I have been here for over a year. I listened very carefully to what different politicians say. Some politicians claim that Georgia practically fulfilled everything and other politicians say that Georgia has practically not fulfilled any of the recommendations.
If you ask me about my opinion, I think that the picture is mixed: On the one hand, a lot has been done, especially in recent weeks after the visit of the High Representative/Vice President. We have seen a huge acceleration. On the other hand, there are still mixed signals coming from Georgia. There is ongoing impeachment of the President, which clearly does not contribute to the implementation of the priority number one. The questions of independence of the national bank do not contribute to priority number two, and then there is still pressure on NGOs and civil society.
So, it will be the leaders of the 27 member states to decide, and I sincerely hope that in December, we will all celebrate and I hope that the messages that the Prime Minister of Georgia received yesterday in Spain from European leaders are sincere and honest so that we all together celebrate in December,” he said.
