EU Ambassador hopes Georgia to continue implementing nine steps despite electoral campaigns
The work on the implementation of the nine steps is ongoing. Next week, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobahidze will attend a very important meeting in Brussels in order to discuss the way forward. I’m very hopeful that both the EU and Georgian governments will agree on exactly what needs to be done so that we move very swiftly to the next stage, to the opening of accession negotiations, stated EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński.
The EU Ambassador emphasized the need for national unity in Georgia’s EU accession process.
“This requires a very serious approach on the part of the Georgian side. This requires serious reforms. I hope that in spite of the electoral campaign slowly becoming the main issue, in parallel, the work on the implementation of nine steps will continue.
As the European Union and our European Union Delegation in Tbilisi, of course, we are ready to assist to help as much as we can, but the work needs to be done by Georgians themselves. Of course, this requires inclusivity on the part of the government and a constructive approach on the part of the opposition, as well as full involvement of civil society, so that there is national unity on the issue of Georgia’s advancement on the path towards EU membership,” Paweł Herczyński said.
