EU Ambassador applauds decision to submit de-oligarchization bill to Venice Commission

EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, praises the Georgian Parliament’s decision to submit the de-oligarchization bill to the Venice Commission, hoping Georgia will receive Commission’s opinion in the shortest possible time.

“We very warmly welcome the decision of the Georgian Parliament to send a draft law on de-oligarchization to the Venice Commission. It is very important that international standard setters, like the Venice commission, are approached and asked for an opinion.

We hope that this opinion will be given to the Georgian Parliament as soon as possible. And then, the recommendations of the Venice commission we’ll be taken into account before the law is adopted in its final shape,” the Ambassador said.

The ruling Georgian Dream party announced on November 28 that it would send the bill on de-oligarchization to the Venice Commission for legal review.
