Eter Liparteliani wins Silver at World Judo Championships in Baku
Georgian judoka Eter Liparteliani has won a silver medal at the 2026 World Judo Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The 27-year-old lost to Japan’s Akari Omori in the final of the women’s 57kg category after extra time, securing the second World Championship medal of her career. Liparteliani became world champion in Budapest in 2025.
On her way to the final, the Georgian defeated Maia Leopold of Uruguay, Sara Souza of Brazil, Ana Victoria Puliz of Croatia and Seija Ballhaus of Germany.
Liparteliani is also the reigning European champion. In April, she won gold at the European Judo Championships held in Tbilisi.

The silver medal is Georgia’s second medal at the 2026 World Judo Championships. On the opening day of the competition, Giorgi Sardalashvili won bronze in the men’s 60kg category.
