Estonian FM: Georgian gov't must move forward as agreed with EU, Georgian people
“The Georgian government is moving away from the European path,” Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, told reporters in his doorstep remarks at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
Tsahkna emphasized the importance of the EU’s response, urging clarity and action.
“We were together with Lithuania, Latvia, and Icelandic ministers in Georgia. The situation is really concerning. So one thing is the Foreign Agent’s Law. But the case is that the Georgian government is moving away from the European path and they have declared it publicly as well. So today, we are going to raise this Georgian point that the European Union must act and be very clear about their response,” he stated.
He underscored the need for the Georgian government to fulfil the agreed-upon nine steps toward EU integration. “We need a comprehensive overview from the commission regarding these steps and must prepare appropriate responses,” Tsahkna remarked.
“The Georgian government must now move forward as they agreed with the EU and mainly to Georgian people,” he concluded.
