EP on Georgia and Türkiye: EU accession cannot move forward without democratic reforms

“Parliament sends a clear message: No reforms, no EU accession progress,” the European Parliament said in a post on social media about Georgia and Türkiye.

The post also mentions that “the European Parliament in its resolution on the accession progress of Georgia and Türkiye delivered a clear message: EU accession cannot move forward without democratic reforms.”

“On Georgia, Parliament warns that recent developments such as erosion of the rule of law, political repression and fierce Russian-style anti EU-disinformation, have moved the country further away from its EU accession path. MEPs called for concrete measures to reverse the current direction and have urged targeted sanctions against those responsible for repression of political opponents,” the EP stated.

The European Parliament adopted the resolution, prepared by MEP Rasa Juknevičienė, on June 17.
