The information portal www.ekalata.gov.ge, created by the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) at the initiative of the Georgian government, is now available as mobile applications for both Android and iOS.

The applications allow users to compare prices and access information about selected products from their mobile devices.

The eKalata portal enables users to compare prices at different retail chains in one place, create a personalized shopping basket and calculate potential savings. The platform allows users to compare prices for 13 basic food products and 10 essential non-food products.

According to the GCCA, new retail chains have been added to the portal as part of its development, and prices from 16 major retail chains are currently available on the platform. A store geolocation feature has also been added, allowing users to find the nearest branch.

Information on the portal is updated regularly based on data provided by retail chains, enabling consumers to compare current prices.

“According to September price dynamics, compared with the beginning of the month, by the end of the month, the cost of the cheapest basket consisting of 13 basic food products had decreased by 4.4%, while the cost of the basket consisting of 10 essential non-food products had decreased by 5.3%,” the GCCA said.

The eKalata portal was launched at the end of June as part of short-term measures based on an initiative by the Prime Minister of Georgia and the conclusions prepared by the Georgian Parliament’s Commission Studying the Structure of Food Product Pricing.

The portal aims to provide consumers with information on prices and offers for basic products in one place, make it easier to compare prices across different retail chains and help consumers make informed choices.

As part of the strategy, the GCCA monitors the portal.

“The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency continues to develop the platform and plans to introduce additional features and services for consumers in the future,” the agency said.
