Education Minister hosts Japanese Ambassador and President of Tsukuba University

Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze has met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia, H.E. Ishizuka Hideki, and the President of the University of Tsukuba, Kyosuke Nagata.

According to the Ministry of Education, the parties discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in education, science, and innovation between Georgia and Japan.

As reported by the ministry, particular emphasis was placed on expanding partnerships between higher education institutions, strengthening international scientific collaboration, and facilitating joint research projects.

The Minister informed the guests of ongoing large-scale reforms and upcoming initiatives across the education sector.

During the meeting, special focus was directed towards collaboration with Japan’s leading research centres, namely KEK and J-PARC, which both parties highlighted as a stellar example of scientific partnership.

Givi Mikanadze underscored the importance of long-standing friendship and partnership with Japan. As he noted, it was deeply symbolic that the meeting coincided with the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Japan.

The Minister noted that cooperation with the University of Tsukuba holds special significance for the ministry, as it will further bolster the international integration of Georgian higher education and science.

For their part, the Japanese delegation expressed gratitude to the Minister for hosting them. The President of the University of Tsukuba, Kyosuke Nagata, voiced full readiness to partner with Georgia’s higher education and scientific institutions.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to carry out joint projects to expand future cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth Zviad Gabisonia and the Director of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, Teimuraz Dochviri.
