“Free school uniforms will be provided to state primary school pupils whose family social vulnerability score is below 65,001 points,” the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, announced during a press briefing at the Government Administration.

According to the Minister, free uniforms will also be granted to Ukrainian pupils who, as a result of the military actions that began in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, are unable to continue their education in Ukrainian general education institutions and are enrolled in Georgian state schools.

As the Minister noted, the free uniform set for boys will consist of one jacket and two pairs of trousers, while for girls it will include one jacket, one pair of trousers, and one skirt.

Givi Mikanadze also addressed the general commercial availability of the uniforms, stating that sales, both in retail stores and online, will commence on September 1, with detailed information to be released to the public over the next two to three weeks.

“By decision of the Government of Georgia, free school uniforms will be provided to state primary school pupils registered in the unified database of socially vulnerable families whose rating score is below 65,001 points. Free uniforms will also be guaranteed for children in state care, including those in state foster care programmes, small group homes, homeless youth shelters, or the Tbilisi Children’s Home,” the Minister declared.
