Education Minister discusses strengthening cooperation with Middle East Technical University in Ankara
As part of an official visit to Ankara, the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, met with the Acting President of the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ender Ciğeroğlu, and representatives of the university’s administration.
According to the Ministry of Education, the parties discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Georgian universities and the Middle East Technical University.
Discussions touched on the implementation of joint educational and scientific projects, support for student and academic staff exchange programmes, and the development of cooperation in the field of innovation and modern technologies.
The Minister briefed the participants on the higher education reform in Georgia and emphasised the importance of international cooperation, within the framework of the reform, in raising the quality of education.
According to him, the Ministry places particular emphasis on cooperation with leading universities in various countries, which helps create new opportunities for students and strengthens international ties.
The Acting President of the Middle East Technical University spoke highly of the reforms currently underway in Georgia’s education system and expressed a readiness to deepen cooperation with Georgian universities.
Givi Mikanadze also toured the university’s teaching infrastructure at the METU Technopark and familiarised himself with its educational activities.
The Middle East Technical University is one of the leading and most prestigious state research universities in Turkey. The institution has been operating since 1956 and trains competitive professionals, particularly in the fields of engineering, natural sciences, architecture, economics and social sciences.
Accompanying the Minister at the university were the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Zviad Gabisonia, and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Turkey, Archil Kalandia.
