Mariam Kvrivishvili, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, held a meeting with Parviz Shahbazov, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Shahbazov, accompanied by his delegation, is on a working visit to Tbilisi as part of the “Green Energy Cable” ministerial, hosted by Georgia.

During their discussions, the parties focused on key areas of energy cooperation between the two nations, including the progress of the flagship project, the energy cable connecting the South Caucasus electricity system with the European grid.

According to the Ministry of Economy, both ministers reiterated the strategic significance of this project, emphasising its potential to bolster renewable energy development and enhance transit and bilateral trade opportunities between the European Union and the South Caucasus region.

The meeting highlighted the ongoing partnership between the two friendly countries in pursuit of shared goals: energy security, regional integration, and sustainable development.

The conversation also covered the development of electricity infrastructure and hydro resources, along with plans to deepen cooperation in the oil and gas sectors. The ministry added that Georgia’s energy capabilities present numerous opportunities for expansion in hydropower, as well as solar, wind, and other non-traditional renewable energies. The Georgian side underscored that the government is implementing vital programmes aimed at creating an attractive environment for investors in the energy sector.
