President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Robert Spano, met Chair of the Constitutional Court Merab Turava and the judges.
Robert Spano said the ECHR continues cooperating with Georgia to strengthen human rights protection in the country, and the meeting is a part of the ongoing traditional dialogue between the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court.
“From our perspective, it is important to be a part of the process as we have been for the last 20 years securing a good dialogue between our court and national courts. I hope that this collaboration that has been on for many years will be an important part of the process,” he said.
According to Robert Spano, Georgia shows an improvement in how national courts handle conventional cases.
“The most important thing is that national judges apply the Convention, they apply the criteria, if they do so, the way we work together will be improved and that will mean that human rights protection in Georgia will be increased,” Spano said.
