EC spokesperson calls on Georgian gov't to resume dialogue and face reality

“I think the best would be for the Georgian authorities to look in the mirror and face the reality which is the fact that they are putting in place a very repressive regime that goes against peaceful people, media, and journalists,” said Anitta Hipper, the spokesperson for the European Commission for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in response to a relevant question at a press conference.

According to her, the European Commission is against all forms of violence.

“If you are secure in your democracy, in your way of conducting yourself, you do not feel the need to jail your opponents and innocent people. We are against all forms of violence throughout. We do encourage the authorities to come back to the dialogue with their own society and to ensure that there is no further escalation of this violence,” Hipper said.
