EC President: A day to celebrate in Georgia; big step forward for Georgia

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission (EC) says “It’s a big step forward for Georgia, and this also, it is acknowledging the impressive longing of the overwhelming majority of the people in Georgia to join the European Union.”
“It is a day to celebrate in Georgia. Indeed. Candidate status. As often when we grant or propose a candidate status, we say there are still topics to be done. Homework to be done. This is detailed in the report and in the recommendation,” she said during a press point.
The European Commission recommended the European Council to grant Georgia the status of a European Union candidate country.
