Domestic tourism grows in Georgia in 2021

A total of 1.2 million Georgian citizens aged 15 and above made 1.4 million monthly visits within the country in 2021 with total expenditures reaching 226 million GEL, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat) said on Wednesday.

In 2021, the monthly average number of domestic tourist visits amounted to 662.6, which is an increase of 37.9 per cent compared to the previous year.

According to the survey results, 43.9 per cent of visitors are Tbilisi residents, 11.5 per cent – Kvemo Kartli region, 11.3 per cent – Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, while the rest of the regions are represented by the lower share in the structure.

In the reporting period majority of the visits comes on Tbilisi (average 300.1 thousand visits per month) and the Imereti region (241.9 thousand visits per month), the GeoStat added.
