Land Transport Agency of the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development has successfully launched the Digital Permits System for international freight transport between Georgia and Uzbekistan.

The new system enables carriers to use permit documents in a fully electronic format that ensures rapid, secure exchange of documents, registration and control, reduces technical barriers and increases the efficiency of the transit processes.

According to Land Transport Agency Director Bakur Mikadze, the digital permit system is a significant step towards establishing modern standards for the administration of international road freight transport.

He said the transformation to a digital format with Uzbekistan was a logical continuation of the successful operation of similar systems with Azerbaijan, Turkiye and Kazakhstan.

“This cooperation takes on particular significance against the backdrop of the Middle Corridor’s growing role, since rapid, secure, and digital permitting procedures enhance the corridor’s competitiveness, facilitate the seamless movement of cargo, and strengthen Georgia’s position as a vital transit and logistics link connecting Europe and Asia. Digital transformation of transport processes with partner countries is a priority for the Agency,” he said.

The agency also plans a phased transition to a digital permitting system with other partner countries.
