Deputy FM Darsalia: Russian delegation exit GID negotiations on IDPs, but real agenda discussions will happen

“As soon as the topic of displaced persons was addressed on the agenda at the 62nd round of the Geneva International Discussions (GID), the Russian delegation left the discussion table,” according to Georgia’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lasha Darsalia.

Darsalia said the Russian Federation is attempting to discuss everything but the topics of the six-point agenda.

“The key problems for us are the withdrawal of Russian armed troops from the occupied regions, the return of internally displaced persons, and concerns about the human rights situation in the seized territories, such as the arrests of Georgian nationals, murders, and so-called borderization.

“We constantly urge the Russian Federation to address the agenda items, and not to overburden it with other, unrelated topics.

“We are certain that with our strong stance and the backing of our allies, we will be able to discuss the actual agenda of the six-point agenda sooner or later,” he noted.
