Deputy Economy Minister: Eight-month figures show record cargo turnover driven by sound management in ports and railways

“We discussed fundamental issues such as the Middle Corridor context and its role within global trade systems. It was emphasised that the Middle Corridor is no longer merely an alternative, driving an increase in demand for this transit route,” Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani stated.

The Deputy Minister is attending the third Georgia International Maritime Forum (GIMF 2026) currently underway in Batumi. She delivered a keynote address during a panel session titled “From Seas to Corridors: The New Geography of Global Trade.”

“Very engaging discussions took place between government officials, business executives, and representatives of international organisations. We shared current statistics on Georgia’s transport system, spanning both the railways and seaports. Data for the first eight months of this year shows very high cargo turnover; we have achieved record figures and strong growth. It must be noted that this rise is driven by sound management implemented across both Georgia’s ports and Georgian Railway,” the Deputy Minister noted.

Furthermore, Tamar Ioseliani underscored the critical importance of public-private partnerships, describing Georgia’s port operations as a prime example.

“This is precisely what we highlighted during the discussions: that regional cooperation alongside effective public-private partnerships is vital if we are to deliver fast, efficient, and reliable services to customers,” the Deputy Minister added.
