Demand for state agricultural laboratory services rises sharply in first half of 2026

“Figures for the first six months of 2026 show a significant increase in both the number of tests conducted and samples received at the State Laboratory of Agriculture compared to the same period last year. These figures reflect the expansion of the laboratory’s operations, the implementation of new testing methods, and growing demand for laboratory services,” reads the statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Ministry reported that 124,084 tests were carried out at the laboratory during the reporting period, compared to 80,982 in the first half of 2025, representing a 53 per cent increase.

“The largest proportion of tests continues to involve animal disease diagnostics. Within this area, fish disease testing increased notably, rising nearly fourfold compared to the same period last year. This trend reflects growing demand for relevant laboratory services alongside the development of Georgia’s aquaculture sector. Growth was also recorded in food safety testing. Of particular note are honey quality analyses, which increased nearly sixfold compared to the same period last year. This figure highlights the growing emphasis placed on quality control and laboratory testing by beekeepers and commercial operators.

The State Laboratory of Agriculture is progressively expanding its research capabilities, introducing modern diagnostic methods, and strengthening laboratory services nationwide. As part of this process, the development of regional services and the creation of new laboratory facilities are actively underway. Moving forward, the State Laboratory of Agriculture will continue to introduce testing methods compliant with international standards, develop its laboratory capacity, and ensure high-quality, reliable, and accessible laboratory services,” the statement reads.
