Defense Committee Chair meets his German counterpart

Chair of the Georgian parliamentary Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia and the Committee members, Khatia Tsilosani and Alexander Elisashvili met the Chair of the Defense Committee of the German Bundestag, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann.

The meeting focused on regional security challenges, the war in Ukraine and its consequences on Georgia, the situation in the occupied regions, Georgia’s progress in the Euro-Atlantic integration process, bilateral cooperation in the defense sphere between Georgia and Germany, and the necessity to further boost the Committee-to-Committee cooperation.

“Germany is our valuable partner and a friend country and our cooperation is of particular significance. The support of Germany is of high value in the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia and the enhancement of our national defense capacity. Our two countries enjoy close collaboration in the defense sphere. Germany is actively engaged in the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP), a representative of Germany is the leader of the SNGP Key Group and Germany also leads the implementation of three initiatives of the Package.

Accompanied by Georgian MPs, I elucidated to my German counterpart the degree of priority of further enhancement of our cooperation, and utmost necessity of the increased pressure on Russia in the view of de-occupation and the NATO and EU integration of Georgia,” Beraia noted.

Georgian MPs thanked Dr. Strack-Zimmermann for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the EU and NATO integration of Georgia. Irakli Beraia invited his counterpart to Tbilisi.

Defense Attaché of Georgia to Germany, Brigadier General Shavlego Tabatadze and the First Secretary of the Georgian Embassy, Tamar Kakulia attended the meeting.
