Defence Forces Chief tours landslide-ravaged Shovi

Giorgi Matiashvili, Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces, arrived in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality to oversee the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

At the field headquarters, General Kakha Tabatadze provided the details on the involvement of defence forces’ personnel and dispatched heavy equipment, locations and instructions.

The military personnel from the Eastern and Western Commands, combat engineering units, the Logistics Support Command, and the 102nd Territorial Defense Battalion of the 10th Cadre Brigade of the National Guard are involved in the efforts.

The death toll in the landslide-hit Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality rose to 26 on August 15. Seven people are still missing, and rescue efforts continue at various locations.
