David Arakhamia: GD fights to fulfill Russian order and leave Georgia without EU candidate status

“Georgian Dream party is fighting to fulfill the Russian order and leave Georgia without EU [candidate] status, Chairman of Ukraine’s ruling Servant of the People party, David Arakhamia, said on Friday after the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party announced they intend to impeach Georgian President Salome Zourabishvili for “violating the constitution.”

The very decision came after President Zourabishvili had undertaken a series of overseas visits to promote Georgia’s EU candidacy bid, despite being denied permission by the government.

Arakhamia said that “the Georgian government is once again sabotaging the Georgian people’s chance of receiving the status of EU candidate.”

“[Bidzina] Ivanishvili [ex-Georgian Prime Minister, GD founder] and Russia behind him are playing out [Viktor] Yanukovych [ex-Ukrainian President] scenario of 2013, but in contrast as they remember Yanukovych’s end, they cannot openly renounce the status, but they are trying to prevent the European Union from granting Georgia the status,” Arakhamia added.
