The Georgian government has announced that the daily passenger rail service between Tbilisi and Baku will resume from May 26, ending a six-year hiatus.

In addition, a protocol was signed during the visit of a Georgian delegation to Baku by the Bilateral Coordination Council, confirming the full operational status of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway section.

“The protocol of the Bilateral Coordination Council has been signed, according to which the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway section will be put into full operation. The document was signed by Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Rashad Nabiev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan. As per the agreement, daily passenger rail services between Tbilisi and Baku will be restored from May 26, following a six-year pause,” the official statement reads.

For context, the Prime Minister of Georgia is currently on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
