Culture Committee Chair slams German, EU Ambassadors for involvement in political process, financing protests

“If anyone violates the Venice Convention in Georgia, it is German Ambassador Peter Fischer and EU Ambassador Paweł Herczyński. They are directly involved in the country’s internal political processes,” said Giorgi Gabunia, Chair of the Parliamentary Culture Committee.

According to Gabunia, interference in the internal politics of a country is prohibited by the Venice Commission.

“Fischer, Herczyński and ambassadors ot two or three other countries organized protest movements in Georgia and financed them through different channels. We have seen many cases of assemblies, including the recent incident of Lomjaria. We have had this impression for a long time regarding the German ambassador and Herczynski. Herczynski is the individual who violates several articles of the Venice Convention and grossly interferes in the county’s political processes.

Fischer downgraded Germany-Georgia relations to a level which has never been observed. Ambassadors should fulfil their actual function, constantly working with executive and legislative authorities for the improvement and development of relations between the two countries. This person has turned into a representative and spokesperson for radical opposition parties.

“Message boxes of radicals are being processed directly with him, various steps are being agreed upon and planned. Is this interference in the country’s internal affairs? Of course, it is,” he said.
