Tbilisi City Court rules 5-year prison sentence for attacking GPB cameraman

Tbilisi City Court delivered a sentence on violence committed against GPB First Channel cameraman Ilia Tvaliashvili and TV Pirveli reporters following the July 5-6 events, when far-right mobs protested against the Pride March in Tbilisi.

The court found all the offenders guilty and sentenced them to five years in prison.

The judge reclassified the charge against Tsotne Chikhladze, accused of inflicting grave injury intentionally on Ilia Tvaliashvili and found him guilty under Article 126, which stipulates violence. The judge grounded this decision by lacking a medical conclusion.

Tbilisi City Court sentenced Davit Kutaladze, Otar Gelashvili, Gia Giguashvili, Tornike Davlasheridze and Akaki Nakashidze to five years imprisonment for violence against the film crew of TV Pirveli.

Two more individuals (Giorgi Maghradze and Giorgi Tsaruashvili) accused of physical violence against Ilia Tvaliashvili were found guilty and sentenced to one year and three months in prison earlier Monday.

The far-right mob attacked fifty-three journalists, including GPB cameraman Ilia Tvaliashvili, during the July 5 anti-Tbilisi Pride rally in the Georgian capital last year.
