On August 24, 1995, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the Constitution, transforming the country’s state, legal and political reality and elevating the fundamental values of the Georgian state to constitutional status, Constitutional Court Chairman Revaz Nadaraia said in a statement posted on social media.

According to Nadaraia, the adoption of the Constitution represented a firm democratic choice by Georgian citizens in favor of the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and fundamental human rights.

“A Constitution is alive when its principles operate in everyday life. It is precisely in this process that we bear a great responsibility — to remain faithful to the Constitution, the fundamental law that is the foundation of the state.

“The Constitution creates the architecture of a state governed by the rule of law. Protecting the Constitution is an ongoing process, while the Constitutional Court is one of the key guarantees of its strength.

“I congratulate everyone on this significant anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. May we be worthy followers and reliable guardians of these constitutional ideals,” the statement said.
