Congressman Joe Wilson: We need to ensure that Axis of Aggressors stop terrorizing Georgian people

Congressman Joe Wilson said that together with three co-party members, he had re-introduced the MEGOBARI Act on Georgia to the 119th Congress.

“Today, I along with Steve Cohen, Richard Hudson and Marc Veasey, reintroduced the MEGOBARI Act to the 119th Congress as H.R. 36. It is our first priority to ensure the Georgian Nightmare comes to an end, and the Axis of Aggressors stop terrorizing the people of Georgia,” he wrote on the X Platform.

According to The Hill, bipartisan lawmakers renewed push for legislation supporting Georgia against Russian interference.

The MEGOBARI Act “codifies sanctions against Georgian government officials for human rights abuses and undermining democracy.”

According to The Hill, the legislation comes amid mass protests against a power grab by the Georgian Dream party and Russian interference.

Cohen is also expected to introduce legislation that would bar the U.S. from recognizing the Georgian Dream as Georgia’s legitimate government.

Wilson told a small group of reporters in his office on Capitol Hill on Friday it was a rare example of bipartisanship and important in the context of the new Congress.

“We get sworn in in about 15 minutes, so even before being sworn in, the American congress is standing with the people of Georgia,” he said.
