Concerned about Saakashvili's deteriorating health, EU Ambassador hopes court procedure to conclude shortly

We are very concerned about the reports of Saakashvili’s deteriorating health. We sincerely hope that this judicial process will end up rather quickly, EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski stated on Monday.

According to him, the Georgian authorities must respect the rights of all prisoners.

“On the question of former president Mikheil Saakashvili, what I want to say is that we are very concerned about the reports of his deteriorating health. We are monitoring the ongoing judicial procedures very closely. We sincerely hope that this judicial process will end up rather quickly and, in the meantime, we call on the Georgian authorities that this is their responsibility to respect all the rights of all prisoners, including the former president’s, rights as defendants in court and rights as prisoners. And again, this is the responsibility of Georgian authorities to make sure that all his rights as a defendant in court and all his rights as a prisoner are fully respected,” the EU Ambassador said.
