Competition and Consumer Agency monitors tobacco market

The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency has initiated monitoring of the tobacco market based on local industry requests.

The monitoring aims to assess the competitive environment in the tobacco market, including the degree of market concentration measured by the Herfindahl-Hirschman index. The evaluation will cover market volume, economic agents operating in the market, market shares, and other relevant factors.

The Agency will periodically publish interim results.

“This initiative follows the completion of monitoring the bank insurance market and the liquid and natural gas market in 2023. Currently, the markets of motor fuel, cranberries, and nuts are also under observation,” the Agency states.
