Competition Agency probes into pharmaceutical market

Georgian National Competition Agency has launched an investigation into four pharmaceutical companies.

According to the Agency, the issue is the recent sharp increase in chronic and oncological medicine prices and the alleged similar pricing by importers and distributors.

The move comes after the Georgian Health Ministry reported “unscrupulous actions” by some pharmaceutical companies after the reference price system for medicines was introduced.

The agency evaluates the case within six months, which can be extended to 18 months.
