Committee Chair: Opposition MPs opted not to participate in Transparency Bill discussion

Anri Okhanashvili, the chair of the legal affairs committee, highlighted that individuals who had editorial comments on the Transparency bill were given the opportunity to express their concerns but opted not to attend the committee meeting.

“The adoption of the transparency law is a societal imperative, ensuring transparency in our nation’s affairs, including the sources and purposes of funding.

Opposition MPs stood outside the door, choosing not to enter. Claims that they were prevented from entering are untrue; they opted not to participate,” said Anri Okhanashvili.

Okhanashvili further underscored citizens’ right to peaceful expression but cautioned against illegal actions, noting that police will respond appropriately to any breaches of the law.

The Legal Committee has approved the draft law “On transparency of foreign influence” in its third reading. However, opposition MPs claimed that they were not allowed to attend the session.
