Land slope collapse in Racha caused damage to central highway, Oni Deputy Mayor says
Giorgi Nodarishvili, the first deputy mayor of Oni municipality, has reported that the collapse of a land slope in the village of Zudal caused damage to a section of the central highway. He assured that the road will be repaired.
“The construction work for a bridge crossing on the 107th kilometre of the Kutaisi-Alpana-Mamison road was already in progress, and this sort of hazard was anticipated during the construction. Thorough precautions had been taken to ensure the safety of all workers involved in the project. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained during the incident. The road remains open for light vehicles, and there is currently no threat of recurrence,” the deputy mayor said.
According to the Department of Highways, the collapse occurred during the ongoing construction work on the road connecting Kutaisi (Choma)-Alpana-Mamison pass and Sachkhere-Rachi. The agency says that a cracked wall led to the enclosure of the road’s carriageway by parapets, preventing the collapsed land mass from spreading beyond the enclosed area.
The construction company representative confirmed that the slope’s collapse was expected during the road construction, and the road size had been reduced while adhering to safety measures.
