Coalition for Change's Japaridze: PACE document demands new elections, political prisoners' release before April part-session
“The important points included in the document are that the de facto government must announce the date for new elections, and all political prisoners must be released before the April part-session,” stated Zurab Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, while commenting on the PACE Monitoring Committee’s draft report.
According to him, Georgia’s delegation will have limited rights compared to other delegations until April 2025.
“There are other conditions included, but in my opinion, these two are the fundamental issues. These two are the demands that have been standing on Rustaveli Avenue for more than two months now.
Regarding the granting of credentials, it may seem otherwise, but I wouldn’t even call it that. What they’ve done is that they simply delayed their consideration until April. In practice, they will have the right to enter the session hall, but all other rights that country delegations typically enjoy in PACE will be restricted. They will not be able to participate in committees, join observation missions, or hold positions within PACE – all the usual rights and privileges of delegations will be withheld,” Japaridze stated.
The PACE Monitoring Committee published its draft report regarding Georgia today.
