Classes to resume at Tbilisi Public School No. 21 from September 28

Classes at Tbilisi Public School No. 21 will resume on September 28 following a decision made after an interagency review of the issue, consultations with experts and the involvement of the school community, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth said.

According to the Ministry, additional clarifications received from the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau helped determine the measures currently required at the school building.

“In accordance with the experts’ recommendations, the damaged sections of plaster on the facade will be removed, and exposed areas will be replastered. Cracks in the basement area will also be filled with high-strength sand-cement or polymer-cement mortar. The condition of the building will continue to be monitored throughout its operation,” the Ministry said.

The works will be carried out by a contractor under strict technical supervision and monitoring by specialists with the relevant expertise from the Municipal Development Fund. In addition, specialists from the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau will exercise continuous independent expert control over the progress and quality of the works.

“All necessary measures to ensure the safety of students and school staff will be taken during the works,” the Ministry said.

As an additional safety measure, the Mandaturi Service of the Ministry of Education and Science will assign additional personnel to the school.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education continues to search for suitable alternative premises to enable the planning and implementation of further large-scale works on the school building.

“Both the ongoing works and the condition of the building, as well as the safety of the learning environment, will remain under the constant supervision of the relevant agencies. If necessary, additional measures will be taken promptly,” the Ministry said.
