Civil funeral of 13 bodies repatriated from occupied Abkhazia at Sameba Cathedral
Civil funeral of 13 bodies repatriated from the occupied Abkhazia region is ongoing at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and governmental members commemorated the deceased Georgian citizens missing since Georgia-Abkhazia military hostilities in the 1990s.
The identified persons (6 soldiers and 7 civilians) were repatriated to Georgia several days ago.
“About 2 300 people are still believed to be missing. The 206 identified bodies have been handed over to their families. The process continues,” said Tea Akhvlediani, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality.
The first repatriation of missing citizens’ bodies took place in 2013.
