Citizens protest against arrival of cruise ship with Russian citizens on board at Batumi port

Protesters at Batumi port are rallying against the arrival of a cruise ship with Russian citizens on board at the port. The cruise ship arrived in Batumi from Sochi.

The rally participants say the occupation law was violated. There are whistles and shouts at the rally.

The cruise ship area is guarded by police. Protesters tried to break through the cordon only once when one of the ship passengers displayed a Russian flag. On top of that, one of them made an offensive gesture at the protestors. However, the situation did not escalate. Representatives of opposition political parties are also present at the rally.

The rally was announced by the citizen earlier today on social media.

The cruise ship has already left the port.

The Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia issued a statement saying the entry of the cruise ship ASTORIA GRANDE is commercial.

“The ship owner is registered in the Seychelles under Goodwin Shipping Limited and is not subject to international sanctions,” the Agency added.

[UPDATE] The cruise ship has already left the port.
