Citizens party: If you turn a blind eye to reality, you are bad politician
The research conducted by the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Center for Insights in Survey Research reads that the polarization must end, and a boycott makes no sense, leader of the parliamentary opposition party Citizens stated. Aleko Elisashvili believes “if you turn a blind eye to reality, you are a very bad politician. Moreover, you do not love your country”.
According to the opposition MP, politicians should be in parliament.
“This survey was conducted in February, it is April now. I am sure it will be even more negative than 60 per cent of people, who think the boycott should end and politicians should think about the real problems of the people, and debate in the parliament. Taking up seats and ending the boycott is not a betrayal of the country. On the contrary, if politics is in the service of the people, everyone should stand in the service of the people in the parliament,” Elisashvili said.
The International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Center for Insights in Survey Research conducted its first nationwide poll of Georgia since the 2020 parliamentary elections. Amid political deadlock between the opposition and the ruling party, 60 per cent of citizens either “definitely” (42 per cent) or “somewhat” (18 per cent) do not support the opposition’s boycott of Parliament.
