Chair of EU Integration Committee views OSCE PA’s call for dialogue as significant message

“The call of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for a dialogue was significant. Dialogue is fundamental to any democratic community,” Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary European Integration Committee, told the GPB’s First Channel.

According to Makhashvili, dialogue has its own format in every democratic state.

“Dialogue formats were fully ignored. We welcome this call and opportunity and urge everyone to respect democracy and dialogue formats instead of ripping mandates or undermining elections outcomes. Regrettably, a large part of the opposition did not use the formats consciously, not by mistake. At this stage, dialogue is possible in parliament between those parties that respect the election results.

In the other case, elections will be held in 2028, and part of the opposition will have the opportunity to prove whether it is in favor of dialogue or not. In all democratic societies, dialogue takes place with those forces that respect the choice of the population. Dialogue will not take place with guilty parties that do not engage in parliamentary activities,” he said.

On March 11, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly released a statement regarding its recent visit to Georgia. The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly also called on all political actors to begin direct communication in order to resume political dialogue.
