CEC: Violation of Presumption of Innocence for Saburtalo District Election Commission Member
The election administration responded to a statement by Ketevan Turazashvili, a representative of the Strong Georgia coalition who demands the immediate dismissal from office of Teona Japaridze, a member of the Saburtalo District Election Commission.
As stated in public announcements, investigative actions are underway following the death of Alexander Turazashvili, a member of the Saburtalo District Election Commission and the father of Ketevan Turazashvili.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the presumption of innocence continues to be violated, with claims linking Teona Japaridze, a member of the District Election Commission, to alleged illegal actions that are being cited as the cause of Aleksandre Turazashvili’s death. Such unfounded accusations, made without proper evidence or investigation, constitute direct pressure on the member of the District Election Commission.
If, in accordance with Georgian legislation, it is determined that a member of the current commission has committed an illegal act, the CEC will examine the matter within its authority and take appropriate action. The election administration urges Ketevan Turazashvili to await the final decision of the appropriate authorized body regarding the investigation.
