CEC representatives explore electronic voting technologies in Strasbourg
In order to study international practices related to the introduction of electronic technologies in the election process, representatives of Georgia’s election administration, led by Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), were in Strasbourg.
According to the CEC, the event titled Modernization of Elections, Challenges, and Future Plans was organized by the Council of Europe office in Georgia.
During the two-day visit, representatives from various European institutions shared their experiences with the Georgian CEC on critical election-related topics, including PACE monitoring and election observation procedures, information security, the use of artificial intelligence in elections, and the impact of hate speech on elections.
The Georgian delegation met with representatives of the PACE election observation mission and the European Court of Human Rights. The discussions emphasized the importance of maintaining close communication on various election issues. The Georgian election administration members also provided updates on the preparations for the 2024 parliamentary elections and highlighted new measures being implemented to align with international and European standards.
The Chairman of the CEC expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe for its longstanding cooperation and support in enhancing the institution’s capabilities and advancing election processes in Georgia.
