CEC reports on threats and pressure being exerted on its employees

Giorgi Sharabidze, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), held a briefing over threats and pressure faced by CEC employees.

Sharabidze highlighted that while the election administration operates transparently and under the law, it has faced baseless accusations and undue pressure.

“We are referring to the recent provocative action against the Legal Department representatives of the CEC. A member of the political council of the Unity-National Movement verbally insulted our colleagues, exerted pressure, and attempted to distort facts in the presence of the media. This incident began at the city court during a process concerning the opening of election precincts abroad and continued outside the court.

We urge both local and international monitoring organizations to address this provocative action and not leave it unchallenged, as such behaviour harms the electoral environment. Hate speech, slander, insults, and personal attacks on election administrators directly threaten the integrity of the election process”, he stated.
