The Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) hosts the 11th International Conference on the fight against disinformation in Batumi, Adjara.
In the opening remarks, CEC chair Giorgi Kalandarishvili said that the fight against disinformation was a challenge for many countries in the 21st century.
“We will discuss electoral technologies and the fight against disinformation, especially in the technological context, to protect the integrity of elections and the electoral environment from the harmful influence we have seen many times from disinformation campaigns. This is not only the challenge of our country but of many countries, especially in the 21st century, when the disinformation and false narratives have no boundaries,” he said.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili told the conference that for the first time in Georgia, the 2024 parliamentary elections would be held with the use of electronic technologies, which is “a step forward” and would ensure the voting procedure simplification, security, transparency and increasing trust of the voters toward election process.
