CEC: Election administration does its best for successful election modernization process
Election technologies that the Central Elections Commission (CEC) will use at the 2024 parliamentary elections are in line with international standards, said Giorgi Sharabidze, CEC Deputy Chair, at the briefing.
Giorgi Sharabidze spoke about the audit results of the October 1 elections presented to the society on October 27. He said political parties, NGOs, media and experts attended the event organized with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
“Some individuals, based on their own political goals, tried to cover this vital information for the public with meaningless noise. In particular, representatives of the United National Movement attempted to cause chaos and mislead the media, as if the selection process of the audit company was closed.
In fact, we presented the audit results to the parties involved in the mentioned event in detail, which served only one purpose of strengthening transparency and publicity of the election process further,” he said.
CEC Deputy Chair stressed that the election administration does its best to ensure the success of the election modernization process, while against this background, spreading disinformation on electronic elections takes the form of a campaign.
Giorgi Sharabidze warned that the CEC would not leave disinformation and deception facts unresponded and would contribute to providing society with objective and comprehensive information through active information campaigns.
He said the election administration would reconsider cooperation with certain individuals and parties and act in compliance with the law if the October 27 destructive fact were repeated, and to prevent provocations.
“The election administration remains committed to the openness principles, transparency and accountability. Any issues will be open to interested stakeholders,” Giorgi Sharabidze stated.
